Summer Workshops for College Application Essay Writing

Attention High School Junior, Seniors and Parents!  Your hard work these past three years of high school is about to pay off as you begin the college application process!  But are you worried about how to apply?  What should you write about in your application essay?  Who reads these essays anyway?  How do they fit into the application process?  How do you say what you want to say in just 200 or 500 words?

Stop worrying!  Summer is actually a great time to work on college application essays when you are more relaxed!  In these 2-day, 4-hour workshops, OCCS Instructor Janelle Henderson will guide students through this essay writing and application process.  For the past five years, Ms. Henderson has been helping students from Columbus and around the world (via skype and email) with their college admissions essays. Her students have been accepted to The Ohio State University, Northwestern University, Miami University of Ohio, Case Western Reserve University, Cornell, George Washington University, The University of Rochester, NOVA Southeastern University, Fordham College, and several others.

Students will look at some good (and bad) essays and talk about what is important to include in them.  Students will brainstorm possible topics and give each other feedback, while also beginning to outline, draft, and edit their own personal essays, both for college admissions and for valuable scholarships.  Class sizes will be kept small (15 students MAX) to ensure enough individual attention.  Classes are limited to students who are High school juniors and seniors ONLY.

Dates, times, and locations will be announced soon -- check back for more information!
